How Social Media Effects Student’s Academic Performances?

In recent years, the usage of social media has increased dramatically around the world.  Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, YouTube, TikTok, and Snapchat are among the most popular social media platforms used by most people around the globe. Many people use these applications and websites to socialize with one another, and they are becoming a major part of our daily lives, especially during this “boring” modern era. Honestly, how could possibly a human survive without technology, specifically internet and social media applications these days? Of course, it is impossible to do so.

Students and social media have a very strong connection. Young students are among those who are always on the lookout for new followers and “likes” on social media platforms. Many college students, on the other hand, utilize social media to interact with one another and used mostly for documentation or writings. If you want to do your own study and research, you may look out an essay or article on social media to utilize as a starting point. Reading a free essay or article about social media is essential for gaining a better knowledge of the positive and negative effects from such websites and services, which is a prerequisite for producing a brilliant writing.

The popularity among teenagers and adolescents, of the usage on social media platforms, may appear to have a detrimental impact on their academic performances. When it comes to social media and student academic performances, there are both positives and negative effects, so let’s look further on the both aspects.

Positives Effects of social media on Education

Learning and Interactions from a Variety of Perspectives

Students may utilize social media to not only collaborate with one another, but also to be exposed to diverse interactions. They are no longer only in contact with their peers and instructors, but also with students from other countries. This enables students to come up with a variety of thoughts on a topic that may be included in paper writings or documentations.

Ability to Reach on Experts

Among the most effective ways that social media helps students to improve their academic performances is by enabling them to connect with industry experts. One of the finest things you can do as a student is to ask a question directly to anyone whose work you admired and valued on or whose field you are studying in, and that makes social media to help you on going through this process.

Build-up enhanced collaboration

Using social media to collaborate on team tasks makes it relatively easy. Many students are aware that using their institution or university’s own online platforms can be time-consuming and inefficient. When they have to work on a project with other students, they may utilize applications that they already use on a daily basis, such as Facebook and Twitter, to create groups and conduct video chats, for instance.

Negative Effects of social media on Education

Reduces learning and research capability

With the widespread usage of social media, students are increasingly relying on such platforms to obtain information and knowledge rather of searching for it in books, journals, or notes. As it is so simple and can be easily found material online, students’ reading habits, as well as their learning and research abilities, are decreasing.

Brings consequences to student’s health

Usage of social media sites with carelessness can have both mental and physical consequences for an individual’s health. Students who do not eat on time, do not get enough rest, and spend too much time on their phones or laptops might have adverse implications on their eyes. Such acts cause students to be sluggish and unmotivated to study or even go out to make new friends. It is recommended that parents and schools have to monitor their children’s internet usage. Too much social media usage may have a negative impact on students’ minds, and they may also be subjected to improper posture, eye strain, and physical and mental stress.

Reduce Retention Rates

Young people’s usage on social media frequently leads to a poorer retention rate and a decrease in attention span. There is so much continual noise on such applications that students actually end up wasting a lot of time by just scrolling through the profile of their favorite and admired celebrity, blogger or influencer, without paying more attention on their academics.

In conclusion.…

Social media and students have a strong connection. On the one hand, the usage of social media applications can be brilliant way for them to stay in touch and interact, but they can also be a major distraction and lead to extreme long-term consequences. The answer will be ‘a lot’ if you’re asking on how many students are using social media applications these days. Those students must strike a balance between their usage of social media and their academic performances, as the both are becoming increasingly linked as time goes on.
